Starlight Networks Resellers Win Prestigious INVISION Multimedia Awards For Networked Video Applications

ATLANTA, Georgia -- May 24, 1994 -- Networked video applications were prominent winners of the INVISION multimedia awards at Comdex/Spring, with two of Starlight Networks resellers and their users winning for their networked video solutions.

Visual Symphony (Pittsburgh, Penn.) and its customer, CSX Transportation, won a Bronze award in the End-User Developed Applications category (Training subcategory) for the networked multimedia training system they co-developed using Starlight Networks' StarWare(r) video networking software. CSX is using networked multimedia to cost-effectively train tens of thousands of its railroad employees throughout 20 East Coast states. The cost savings of only one new video training program justifies the entire system implementation, and dozens of training programs are being planned. Two courses are already in use at eight networked sites.

Digital Renaissance (Toronto, Ontario) won a Silver award in the Information/Reference category (Museum Exhibit Guide subcategory) for The Silver Dart Project, an electronic encyclopedia of aviation history developed for Canada's National Aviation Museum using Starlight's StarWorks(r) video networking software. Digital Renaissance worked with the Museum to create an interactive presentation with multimedia capability making the Museum's vast collection of aviation film clips and photographs available to the public. This electronic encyclopedia is perhaps the first museum catalog to feature full-motion video and sound, as well as text and images. Its networked foundation gives it the ability to be accessed by remote users, and be easily updated, and StarWorks permits realtime access by numerous users to the video database.

Both applications are currently being featured at the Multimedia Awards Playland at Comdex/Spring.

"Video networks are here. They're real, and they're affordable, as these INVISION award recipients illustrate," said Jim Long, president of Starlight Networks. "Our corporate customers are realizing benefits from video applications in their current networking environments."

The INVISION awards recognize outstanding multimedia solutions that improve the way people communicate and learn. The winners are considered to be making a major contribution to communications history through their innovative solutions. The Awards are sponsored by New Media Magazine in association with NEC Technologies, The Interface Group, and a broad group of leading industry companies.

Visual Symphony, Inc. is a developer of integrated media software for business, corporate training, industry, and the consumer marketplace. Digital Renaissance is a multimedia development group specializing in enterprise multimedia solutions, custom open systems applications development, and client driven project management and consulting services.
